So, I got off early from work and made use of the hot and steamy day by cleaning the apartment. It has been awhile since I've done a deep clean and it felt good to feel productive. I really need to stop sleeping with remote controls. [It's not that they're taking the place of a man or anything like that.] But I learned a very valuable lesson tonight. I will now stretch just a wee bit farther to put my TV, AC, DVD and other remotes on my night stands or shelves before going to sleep instead of putting them on the empty side of the bed [which varies]. While doing the deep cleaning, I stripped my bedding and ran the washer on scalding hot water. [I don't pay for hot water and it's healthier to wash stuff in hot water, so I've started doing that whenever possible.] Throw the sheets in the washer and go about cleaning the rest of the bedroom. The washer is done and I go to load the stuff into the dryer and what do I find at the bottom of the washer, but the remote to my AC unit [batteries included, still inside the remote]. "Ah fuck!" I say [yes, I say that word, it's such a Boston thing, I'm sorry!] and remember from my favorite crime solving TV show character [Abby from NCIS] that you can save a cell phone from water if you submerge it in dry rice. So, using my thought cooker [head] I'm like "well, if it saves a cell phone, why not try it with a remote, which is also an electronic". So, I take the batteries out of the remote and begin my experiment as I place the remote in a bowl, and cover it in rice. Now, fingers crossed that it will work after sitting in the rice for 24 hours!
This started as a 365 day-by-day blog of my life in Boston as a 2nd year transplant from May 2010- May 2011. I continued into my 3rd year before one of my New Year's Resolutions was to make something new each week. So I blogged about my dishes with photos. Now, another resolution has brought me back to blogging. In March 2014 I plan on spending only $45 which can only go towards food/beverages. Stay tuned to see how I do.
