The second night of cookie baking. This time I did our candy cane cookies. Butter, shortening, egg, powder sugar, vanilla and almond extract, salt and flour. Very simple to make, and fun for kids. Split dough in half and add some red food coloring to one half, then make long snakes and twist the two colors together, or if you get lazy, mash the two together for some interesting red & white candy canes. This dough isn't nearly as tasty as chocolate chip cookie dough or the sourdough cutout cookie dough I ate last night, so it makes a few dozen cookies. All these cookies were made in less than an hour, all done to the traditional holiday music mix which includes Mickey & Friends "12 Days of Christmas" (something my sisters and I grew up listening to at Christmas time), "Carol of the Bells" by Mannheim Steamroller, "Baby It's Cold Outside" (one of my favorite holiday songs), "Rudolph", "What Child is This" and a variety of songs by *NSYNC, 98°, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Straight No Chaser, Tran-Siberian Orchestra, Bing Crosby...you get the picture. Now, I need to figure out how I'm going to store all these cookies. I'll figure that out a little later. Now, on to present wrapping!
This started as a 365 day-by-day blog of my life in Boston as a 2nd year transplant from May 2010- May 2011. I continued into my 3rd year before one of my New Year's Resolutions was to make something new each week. So I blogged about my dishes with photos. Now, another resolution has brought me back to blogging. In March 2014 I plan on spending only $45 which can only go towards food/beverages. Stay tuned to see how I do.
