Dirty Snow

"Only those ages 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 (and Lorien) think the snow is pretty, the adults [in the office] are tired of it." This was from a conversation (maybe not exact words, but close enough for you to get the point) that my colleagues were having at work this afternoon. Apparently the adults in this city are fed up with the snow and they want to thank me for wanting snow this year. I have to admit, I am getting excited for spring time. You see, I love the 4 seasons and would never want to live somewhere where there's only one season (San Diego really has 2 seasons- warm season and cold season). So I welcome the melting snow and am excited to see the earth again (I really want to grow some vegetables on my patio this year). The melting has started, but it's going to take a while for some of the areas to completely thaw out. Now, much of the city is covered in this ugly, dirty snow. It's the dirt from the streets caused by the sand thrown on the roads to melt the snow/ice and the exhaust & oils from the vehicles driving around that gets pushed, shoveled and plowed on top of the clean snow banks. Like in the photo- dirty snow, not the pretty white stuff I love. When we are above freezing and have big melt, we get this yucky, dirty mess with the dirty snow melting into these nasty puddles of slushy crap you have to jump over or risk getting soiled past your ankles. Maybe this is how the whole "don't wear white before Memorial Day" came to be. I know I've wanted to wear white but know one bad step or car driving through a puddle and those pants would never be white again- no way to get them back to white after the cars oils and crap make contact with the fabric. So yes, the dirty snow is here and I might as well say this now... I hope summer is a non-humid summer :) I mean, if I wished for snow and got all this, maybe my summer wish will come true too, right? Time will tell.
